Dates for your diary

Howdy Sitwellians!

Happy New Year and a big warm welcome to our newer members.

Some dates for your diary (I'm sure there'll be more). Sit tight, it’s a long one.

We’ll be hosting a trying on session at The Sitwell Arms on 13th, 17th, 20th and 23rd of January (TBC). Speak to Phil Smith if you'd like any more information or check out the Kit channel on Slack. The first kit window of the year will also be open during this time.

Coaching starts back up Monday 17th February at Wickersley School and Sport College (We’ll be moving back to Cowrakes Recreation Ground on Monday 13th April). Sessions run for an hour from 6-7pm and cost £3 for non-members. We can take any child on a bike without stabilisers. We had four kids transition from balance bike to pedal bike last year but plenty of older kids have attended and learnt vital new skills too. We’ll be looking to spend more time on teaching the advanced kids some trail and road skills this year. Speak to Chris Habershon about this or check out the Under 12s channel on Slack.

CTT Races

Friday 29th May, 7.30pm start for Club HC
Friday 31st July, 7.30pm start for Club Kilo
Sunday 23rd August, 6pm start for Open HC
We’ll be needing marshals like last year, so be on the lookout for news on that. If you'd like any more information on these, please speak to Andy Laidler or check out the Racing channel on Slack

British Cycling Races

On Saturday 4th April we’ll be hosting our first British Cycling sanctioned race with a circuit race on the new Doncaster circuit as part of British Cycling Yorkshire’s Winter Series. It’s an afternoon event with multiple races (3/4, E123, W4, WE1234) being held. We’ll need a handful of volunteers to help us plan and run this, so do get in touch. For more information on that, please speak to Jonny Haynes or check out the Racing channel on Slack.

We’ll hopefully be hosting our first British Cycling sanctioned cat 3/4 road race on our very own brand new course right here in Whiston. We’re pencilled in for Sunday 26th July for this and we’ll be needing help with marshalling and other duties. It’d be great to see some members on the start line too. More information can be obtained from Jonny Haynes or check out the Racing channel on Slack.

As ever we have our regular Sitwell Arms socials on the last Friday of the month. These are a rock up if you’re free type of event and usually attracts a good number of members for a cheeky pop or two.

Mark Weston is also planning to run some different socials every quarter, so be on the look out for those or check out the Socials channel on Slack.

We’ve also got two overseas trips running this year. Kicking off the in the spring we’ve got a trip out to Majorca (18th – 23rd April). We’ve had one place become available for this, so if it’s something you’re interested in Mark Weston has more details.

In September (5th – 10th) some members we’re off to the Alps to tackle some of the world famous climbs it has to offer. This trip is now fully booked.

Presuming these go off without a hitch I’m sure we’ll be running them again next year and there’ll be an announcement on that towards the end of the summer.

We’ve already pencilled in our two big bank holiday rides for the year. We’ll be heading back to the iconic Holme Moss on the Sunday of the late May Bank Holiday (24th May) and our ever popular Cleethorpes ride at the end of the Summer on Sunday 20th August.

We are planning to attend the Tommy Simpson ride, which is looking like Sunday 23rd February this year (TBC). We’ll also be booking discounted places at the Tour de Yorkshire Sportive (James Fox is sorting that out) which is to be run on Sunday 3rd May, and lastly it’d be great for us to put our stripes on show and support the Rotherham Wheelers in their centenary year. They’re running a sportive from Herringthorpe Athletics Track on Sunday 17th May. More information for that one is available on the Sportive HQ website.

For these sportive and rides mentioned above we won’t be running any club ride that day. We will however split up into red, amber, green groups as the numbers allow.

That’s it for now.

Thanks for staying put if you made it this far.

Please do get in touch on Slack if you require any more information.
