Committee Meeting - 8/5/17
We had our club committee meeting a few weeks back where the below was discussed. These are held every first Monday of the month in the Sitwell Arms, Whiston. Club members are more than welcome to attend to discuss any issues they have.
The next committee meeting will be: Monday 5th June 2017
Speed of Rides
The speed of club rides has been discussed at the last few committee meetings as you all will have read in the past notes. With a rapidly growing membership it was only inevitable that there will be different speeds we each want to go at and are comfortable with.
Some members have asked for faster rides and others prefer just the steady speed we already have and some think we are just getting faster anyway.
Some info first. The average speed of the first 8 club rides was 15mph. For the last 8 up to March's committee meeting the average was 14.5mph. So we're about the same. As such we'll not be offering slower rides on Sundays as we feel the Saturday intro rides cover this (advertised at 11-12mph).
Various options to keep club rides for every ability have been discussed.
What we are proposing is to split into two groups after the cafe stop. One at the current advertised club pace of around 13-14mph, the other at a slightly quicker 16-17mph.
It'll be fluid and folks can decide whilst out as to how they feel.
Ride Leaders are in agreement that they'll support the slower of the two groups. So the faster group will have to lead themselves.
What this does mean is that the ride leader can support those that need it and also can pick up anybody who decides to drop out of the quicker group. We're going to start trialling this at James Fox's ride on 28th May as it gives us two weeks of flatter rides before we hit the hills in the middle of June.
We think this can work with your support and hopefully we'll see a few of you out who have been put off by the thought of keeping up with the quicker ones.
With the influx of new members over the winter it has been noted that our group-riding etiquette has slipped somewhat. Some basic advice is never more that 2 abreast, including junctions. If you are struggling. Shout up. A simple call of knock it off from the back helps keep the bunch together and keeps us all safe. There's loads of information on how to keep you and the rest of the group safe here: http://www.sitwell.cc/club-rides.
Socials Officer and Ride Leader
Due to a disagreement with how we should proceed over the two speed groups on Sunday Club Rides, Lee has decided to step down from the committee and also from his role as Ride Leader.
We wish him all the best and thank him for his time and hard work over the last few months.
The good news is Mick Harrison has stepped up to be a Saturday Morning Ride Leader so we're back up to full strength there.
We are however on the lookout for a Socials Officer. So if you think you fit the bill then please speak to a committee member.
We've various plans from a weekend up in the Dales to an overseas trip next year. We'll have more information for you in due course.
It's obvious to see that our membership base has grown a lot over the past 6 months. We are still only have about a 3% female membership base though. The committee has decided to do some targeted advertising to try and increase the numbers. We're open to any ideas. So please do shout up.
We welcome anybody regardless of race, gender or sexual orientation. It's the Sitwell CC way. The way it should be. 👍 🚴 🐝 #sportforall
