Ride Report - An Introduction to Club Riding - January 2017
Saturday 14th January 2017 saw the next installment of the Sitwell CC introduction to club riding event. We started out with 6 riders of which 3 were already club members, and 3 newbees (2 Marks & a Dan!). It was great to see 3 new riders out in the bitterly cold conditions.
We set about our route out of Whiston up Morthern Lane to Thurcroft. We then headed towards Dinnington before taking Lamb Lane towards Oldcotes. We then continued on towards Tickhill before hitting a right towards Styrrup We then started our route for home, hitting the Oldcoates crossroads again and taking Maltby Rd before heading into Firbeck and out the other side into Laughton. We then made our way back to Whiston from here, totalling around 25 miles in all.
Well, in short, we didn’t stop at one this time! After recceing the course, I was unable to locate a café within the flat route I created. It was decided that, as a group, we would stop for a short break as and when needed for an intake of water and fuel.
And something else..
Not only was it one of the coldest rides I have been on, but also one of the most enjoyable. It was great to see the 3 newbees out riding with some of our club members and it is always good to blow the cobwebs away with a nice easy ride around Yorkshire of a Saturday morning!
Whilst a couple of the newbees were a little anxious they would hold us up, I dont think anyone envisaged one of our strongest club riders get a puncture only a few miles into the ride itself, holding everyone up for a good 10 minutes or so! I guess we'll let you off this time Joe!
The next club ride is next Sunday (Jan 22nd). A road ride out to Arksey lead by Club Captain Rob O'Reilly.
I hope to see you all soon.
