Ride Report - An Introduction to Club Riding - September 2016
Saturday 3rd September 2016 saw the 2nd Sitwell CC beginners ride. We started out with 10 riders of which 5 were already club members, and 5 newbees made up of 2 males and 3 females.
I was over the moon to welcome the female beginners especially as we are trying to reach out to the many female cyclists in the county as we can.
We set about our route out of Whiston up the Strava SCC KOM towards Ulley, then taking in the quiet lanes over Dinnington and Anston way we headed towards Kiveton and up the testing Packman Lane climb.
From there we headed out to Shireoaks before turning back towards Gildingwells and Firbeck, then finally taking the long decent back into Whiston.
All in all, a nice quiet route with a few testing climbs.
Well, in short, we didn’t stop at one this time! After looking over the course I was unable to locate a suitable café.
We discussed this before starting and decided as a group we would stop for a short break half way round. And it was only a short one as we were in fear that the rain would eventually catch up with us.
And something else…
One thing I did learn on the ride myself… don’t hang around on the climb, get to the top and wait for the others!
My ‘dilly dallying’ on packman hill ended up with poor Paul Barnes meeting my back wheel and his pride and joy meeting the tarmac!
Thankfully no-one man or machine was injured during the incident.
Sorry about that Paul, I’ll have my wits about me from now on.
Thanks again to those who came and made it a strong group of riders on a tricky up and down route. Everyone rode really well and by all accounts, everyone enjoyed it!
The date of the next ride is yet to be decided, but keep an eye on the website for updates.
It is expected the ride will be in early October hosted by another Sitwell CC member.
I hope to see you all soon.
