Ride Report - Cherry Lane Garden Centre

This was a new route with a new cafe. 12 of us met up for this one with 11 being club members, an excellent turnout. Lovely blue skies greeted us with quite mild temperatures for the end of November.

The Route

This was a big lumpy loop around and through Tickhill for the cafe stop The first 10-15km were on predominantly main roads but after that onto lovely quite lanes.

The main roads to be fair were not to busy with it being a little after 9am on a Sunday morning. However we did come up Dalton Lane nearing the end of the ride which we will probably avoid in the future.

It wasn't that it was just busy for a Sunday afternoon, but moreover with it being a long climb on a narrow road made for very impatient drivers. There are plenty of other hill climbs close to Sitwell HQ we can incorporate into a route that are quieter and therefore enjoy more.

Cafe Stop

As a whole and for our first visit to Wellington Cafe within Cherry Lane Garden Centre, we were more than impressed. There was a huge array of choice of drinks, cakes, buns, hot and cold sandwiches and meals.

The ever so popular bacon sarnie went down a treat. We sat inside where there was ample room. The service was also really good and we wasn't waiting long at all, considering the Garden Centre was packed and with Christmas shoppers too. Also good value for money. We will definitely be making a return visit here.

Group Riding

With it being quite a lumpy route we did get strung out several times which was mainly on the main roads at the start and end of the ride, the traffic that was out and about not helping.

But again overall we performed well at group riding and pace altered up and down when appropriate to suit the group. Those at the front just always need to be mindful of those at the back and if you find you are struggling shout up..... and then shouted down the line so those on the front can hear and adjust the pace for the group accordingly.

Next Sunday we are back to Mountain Biking (4th December). We are off to play in the mud at Rother Valley, a couple of times around the Red Route and a blast through Buzzard Wood. Jonny will be leading.

Cheers
