Ride Report - Cusworth Hall

An excellent number turned out for the ride to Cusworth Hall, taking in parts of the route used in this years Stage 2 of the Tour de Yorkshire.

There were 15 of us in total, 8 being club members, with prospective members and a small group from Tickhill Velo out to join us. Our largest group to date.

We're now up to 19 members.

The route

A shorter ride than of the last few club runs and also not as a flat. There were quite a few nice little climbs to keep them legs awake.

Again like on so many Sunday's the weather was lovely, sunny and warm.

Apart from when the only way that seemed correct was through a field, the route was a good one. Plenty of lanes and quiet roads.

CafΓ© stop

Butlers Tea Rooms within Cusworth Hall was very nice and quite reasonably priced for where it was. The majority of us sat outside in the sunshine.

The cafe was very popular with visitors and Garforth CC so we did have to queue for 5-10 minutes to be served. Also you have to be careful walking on the cobbles in the cafe.

We will definitely be visiting again some time in the future.

Group riding

Unfortunately up until the cafe stop there seemed to be some issues with staying as a group. We became far too strung out too soon. It's something we all still need to try and work on, we're only as fast as the last member. It's a social club run and not a racing one.

On the way back from Cusworth Hall we were a bit better staying together as a group. Lots of new faces and abilities does make it hard but is a must.

It was good to see a couple of members help Phil out with a puncture and others also wait further down the road until it was fixed. Good club etiquette, well done!

Our next Sunday ride is a much flatter and slightly longer one out to Askern and the Lakeside Cafe on June 5th. See you there for those who can make it!

Thanks,
Andy
