Ride Report - One lump or two?
On what has to be the hottest day of the year or maybe even the decade 9 brave souls set off on a route devised by club elder Ian Denham.
Heading through Killamarsh and Eckington we hit the hills quickly. Slow going in the heat and hampered by a puncture we then cracked on up through Ridgeway and Dronfield. Stopping at the excellent Nonas Café on the canal we were soon making our way through familiar territory of Bolsover, Clowne and Kiveton before heading back to HQ.
The opinion form all was that it was a great route with some stunning scenery. Ian definitely needs to devise a few more.
Stopping for not the first time at Nonas, but in wholly different circumstances. We sat outside basking in the sun and replenishing our water bottles. Reasonably priced, quick, pleasant service in nice surroundings. It's somewhere we'll visit again.
Big climbs in the heat strung us out but we always regrouped. And where it was flat we really motored.
We still need to work a little on our positioning. You'll not feel the benefit of being in the pack if you're not in tight enough. We also need to remember not to crowd junctions. Stay in the two across column we approached it in.
