Welfare & Safeguarding

We believe everyone is entitled to participate in an enjoyable and safe environment and to be given the chance to experience the fun, challenge and sense of achievement that are inherent to cycling.

Sitwell Cycling Club is committed to implementing and complying to British Cycling standards of good practice, policies, and procedures.

All young people and adults at risk are entitled to a duty of care and be protected from abuse. Sitwell Cycling Club is committed to implementing policies and procedures to ensure everyone in the Club accepts their responsibilities to safeguard children and adults at risk from harm and abuse. This means taking action to safeguard and report any concerns about their welfare in accordance with the British Cycling Safeguarding Children and Young People Policy and Safeguarding Adults Policy.

Welfare Officers

Sitwell Cycling Club has Welfare Officers who are responsible for ensuring that we meet British Cycling's requirements and making sure they are communicated to Members, Coaches, Parents, and Children. Our Welfare Officers will also advise Sitwell Cycling Club Committee on how best to safeguard the welfare of children and adults at risk who are participating in Club activities.

The role of a Club Welfare Officer is an advisory role and is not intended to replace, even on a temporary basis, the roles and responsibilities of Parents, Guardians, Responsible Adults or Carers. The final decision as to whether an activity or event which involves young people or adults at risk receives approval remains at all times with the Committee of the Club.

Anti-bullying

Sitwell Cycling Club are completely opposed to bullying behaviour and will seek to ensure that bullying is not accepted or condoned. Every club member has a right to enjoy their sport free from abuse and bullying. Action will be taken to investigate and respond to any alleged incidents of bullying. All members are required to adhere to the Club's Anti-Bullying Policy.

Photography and video

Photography and video provides an excellent opportunity to celebrate the achievements of our club members. Sitwell Cycling Club, its members and other participants may take photographs and/or video during the course of an event, club run or club social activity for use on the Club's website and social media accounts; some images may be used for local or national publicity purposes. The Club is compliant with British Cycling's Safeguarding and Photography guidelines. Photographs and video of our under 18 members will only be used where parental consent has been given.

Social Media

On becoming a member of the Sitwell Cycling Club you will be invited to join our Slack Members' Workspace. This forum provides an excellent opportunity for the Club and its members to promote and keep up-to-date with club events and activities; to celebrate achievements; to share knowledge and seek advice on all things cycling; debate a host of cycling issues; and, to generally catch-up and have a banter with fellow members. All members are required to adhere to the Club's Social Media Policy.
